Vorbesprechung/Introduction: Wednesday 12.10.2011, 10:15-11:45, IE02082

The Augmented Reality VU will provide an overview and introduction to the major topics in Augmented Reality:

  • Tracking & Pose estimation
  • Rendering
  • Visualization
  • Interaction
  • Applications

One main focus are the underlying principles and applications of visual tracking techniques in Augmented Reality. Another focus is visual integration of virtual and real information in the image. The exercise part will provide hands-on experience in both areas.

We will work with Microsoft Kinect depth cameras and participants will get to develop sample AR applications using these cameras. Each participant or group will have access to a camera during the term.

ARVU will be held in English.

Exercise

The exercise will involve several smaller tasks that demonstrate the principles discussed in the lectures. You will:

  • calibrate your Kinect camera
  • create some AR rendering effects
  • implement basic interactions

Go to the ARVU 2011 SDK to download the SDK package and get installation instructions.
